Portrait guidance information
If you're looking for some guidance in how to prepare for your studio sitting with us, here are some tips based on our experience in the studio. As a general guide for clothing, the first thing to decide is how you want to come across in the photographs. Formal? Casual? Glamorous? Or perhaps a selection of looks? Splash Photographic’s style of family portraiture can have a modern and relaxed look. This particularly suits a casual approach to clothing, whether it be jeans/t-shirts, trousers/open-neck shirts, etc. Bare feet are also common place! If you want something even more specific, just let us know and we will be happy to advise. Our modern style features plain white backgrounds photographed in colour and black and white. · Don't forget that black can be very effective. · Denim works well for casual pictures. · Certain blouses can show the bra, in which case a camisole or slip works better. · The most important thing is to be comfortable and true to your natural image. · Primary colours can also work well on a white background The only items to be cautious of are those with large distracting graphics or fussy patterns. To make the pictures even more personal to you, how about considering some props? Feel free to bring along your musical instrument, football, surfboard or whatever you think says something about you. If you decide you are wearing make-up, an evening style of make-up works better than the lighter daytime look. Remember that the effect is slightly diluted by powerful studio lighting. Hairstyles are really down to personal preference, but a studio sitting is not the best time to try out a new style! For group sittings the key word is harmony. Whether you all decide to wear colours which co-ordinate, such as pastels or earthy colours, or all the same colour like black or denim, the main idea is to avoid one person standing out in a dominating outfit. If there is a baby involved in the sitting, you will hopefully have asked for a booking away from eating or sleeping times! A change of clothes is useful to add dimension to multiple prints. Tasteful “au naturel” pictures are very popular. It is best to avoid baggy clothes which tend to swamp the baby. Please bring some favourite toys with you. For kids , we suggest that a compromise will keep everyone happy before, during and after the sitting! A smart look followed by a football strip, for example. We aim to make our sittings fun, so it is important for them to come into the studio with no negative ideas about what to expect. |
